All Gummed Up
The American Heart Association recently stated that gum disease, contrary to reports, does not cause heart disease. The bug, Streptococcus gordonii, can enter your bloodstream through bleeding gums and make a molecule that mimics a clotting protein. If you see red when you brush, make a dentist appointment, says study author Howard Jenkinson.
