Of chocolate, that is. After eating a dose of dark chocolate, men showed better blood platelet function than those who hadn’t consumed any, a study published in Molecular Nutrition & Food Research found. The flavanols in the chocolate may help keep platelets from sticking together, resulting in better protection against heart disease and stroke. The effect lasted up to 6 hours, the scientists found. They suggest that eating it in moderate amounts on a regular basis may provide a continuous heart-health benefit.
