Refined Carbs Hinder Blood flow

Here’s another reason to avoid processed foods: Eating refined carbohydrates can strain your arteries. Researchers in Israel found that when overweight people ate cornflakes (which contain little fibre), their arteries had less ability to widen and constrict for as long as 2 hours afterward—unlike when they ate nothing or a fibre-rich cereal. “Foods with a high glycemic index may damage the inner lining of the blood vessels, which may lead to atherosclerosis,” says study author Michael Shechter MD. Cold-cereal lovers should try wholegrain options, like Wheaties or Cheerios.
