Never mind the house calls—doctors need to make more phone calls. Some physicians neglect to inform their patients about worrisome test results, according to a new Archives of Internal Medicine study. When researchers combed through files at 23 doctors’ offices, they discovered that 1 in 14 patients were never told they had abnormal PSA or cholesterol scores. “The doctor might forget to call or might pass over the results so quickly he misses something important,” says study author Lawrence Casalino MD PhD. If you haven’t heard anything within 2 weeks of your test, call or e-mail for answers.
